John M Hart 1990 Silver Hallmarked Epona (Roman Goddess of Horses) Brooch featuring a lovely silver brooch in a zoomorphic design of Epona made in 1990 (Q Date Mark), Castle Edinburgh, Lion for Silver and a separate mark 'HJ' for Hebridean Jewellery - the marks have been tricky to photograph, but are clearly visible under the loupe.
The Epona Silver Brooch, designed by John M. Hart (1935 - 2016) for Hebridean Jewellery, which he established in 1974, is a masterful blend of Celtic artistry and modern craftsmanship. Inspired by Epona, the Roman-Celtic goddess of horses and riders - Epona was especially revered among the Celts, who believed she was a potent guardian of horses and riders alike.
Crafted in sterling silver, the brooch embodies the timeless connection between mythology and artistry. Measuring 4.3 high, 2.2 mm wide, and weighing 6.1g, it is hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office. Perfect as a personal talisman or heirloom, the Epona Silver Brooch is a tribute to Scotland’s heritage and the timeless appeal of Celtic design.
