Attwood and Sawyer 22ct Gold Plated Open Winged Swarovski Crystal Insect/Bee Brooch made in Wales in the 1980's. This is the larger of the two winged insects, possibly a bee, designed by Attwood & Sawyer. Comprising four legs, a teardrop-shaped warm cream faux glass pearl body and pave set clear round Swarovski crystals for its rhodium plated wings, eyes and and as a crown for its head. A beautiful construction with veined wing detail on its 22ct thickly gold plated reverse, also stamped 'A&S'. This lovely brooch has a secure rollover clasp and it measures 3cm long with a 3.8cm wing span and it weighs 14g. The gold plating is very bright with no wear - it is in excellent condition, and a lovely weight for its size. A beautiful piece exuding all the quality from the incredible Attwood and Sawyer team.
Attwood and Sawyer was founded in 1956 in Porthcawl, Wales by Mr Horace Attwood and Mr Sawyer. Many of the designs, now highly collectible, were inspired by historical references, including their most recognisable collection inspired by the jewellery collection of the Duchess of Windsor. Popular in the UK and Europe, they went on to produce the jewellery for the television series Dynasty.
