Moschino "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" Cheap and Chic Bracelet from the Cheap and Chic line featuring two rows of gold tone block letters with a richly plated sheen, each letter boldly attached to dual chains, spelling out the proverb "ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD".

The design drapes beautifully around the wrist and it has a lovely weight of 33g.  It secures with a reliable spring ring clasp, measuring approximately 16cm, plus a 5cm extender chain for customisable fit up to 21cm total.  The extender has an rectangular metal hangtag stamped 'MOSCHINO CHEAP AND CHIC' on the front and subtly etched with '87AH' in a dotted pattern on the reverse, maybe a production marker, or possibly nodding to the Autumn/Winter (Automne-Hiver AH) 1987 ironic motifs as an enduring style homage. The bar adjacent to the clasp is also signed 'MOSCHINO'.  Typically and unashamedly bold Moschino, this is one of our absolute favourites, we love its subversive edge and timeless sass!

Launched in 1988, the Cheap and Chic diffusion line brought Franco Moschino's irreverent genius to a broader audience, channeling his anti-luxury ethos through playful, affordable pieces that poked fun at fashion's excesses.  This bracelet, from the line's vibrant 1990s era, embodies that spirit - the proverb, a timeless caution against superficial glamour, mirrors Franco's 1980s roots in subverting high-end norms.

The phrase 'All That Glitters Is Not Gold' (or its close variant 'All that glisters is not gold') was, of course, popularised by William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (Act 2, Scene 7).  It's spoken by the Prince of Morocco as he puzzles over a gold casket in Portia's suitor test, warning against deceptive appearances:

"All that glisters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold:
Gilded tombs do worms enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgment old,
Your answer had not been inscroll'd:
Fare you well; your suit is cold."
